Abstract: The present study discusses child marriage in Mozambique, practices, beliefs and
implications for girls' schooling in the rural context, focusing on primary schools in rural areas. It is
a theme that constitutes the epicenter of current concerns in the area of girls' education and society in general, given the involvement of various actors in order to ensure and promote the
rights of girls in communities, such as, for example, permanence in school and its completion in
regular time. Child marriage is one of the reasons that contribute to the early school dropout of girls
in primary education, and this fact has chain consequences, such as child maternity, female
illiteracy and loss of opportunities in the job market due to lack of professional skills. The main
argument of the study is that child marriage, its practices and beliefs in rural areas negatively
influence girls' schooling. The aim of the research is to understand the implications of child
marriage in the schooling of girls in the rural context and, more specifically, to discuss the legality
issues related to the prevention and combat of child marriage in the Mozambican context; present
the main causes of child marriage involving school-age girls; identify the associated endogenous
factors, practices and beliefs of child marriage in rural communities; to verify the exogenous factors
associated with child marriage practices in rural communities in complete primary schools and; to
describe the implications of child marriage on girls' schooling in the rural context. To meet these
objectives, the study was based on a qualitative methodological approach, using semi-structured
interviews and document analysis as data collection techniques and instruments. Based on the
analysis and discussion of the results, it is concluded that the implications of early marriage in the
schooling of girls in the rural context are the early school dropout of the girl associated with early
pregnancy, child maternity, diseases that make it impossible for the girl to continue studies at
subsequent levels and consequently not to be employed in the labor market.

Abstract: This paper analyzes communicability trends of disease terms developed in
Mozambican languages based on terminology development strategies. Methodologically, a
corpus consisting of 166 terms associated with 12 diseases developed in 6 Mozambican
languages was compiled. Based on the terminological dimensions (cognitive, linguistic and
communicative) (Sager, 1990), the study found that, communicability hierarchizes the
strategies of term development. The study concludes that term development in the
Mozambican languages requires that an assessment of communicability levels be
considered in order to safeguard communication.

Abstract: Every human society has linguistic means to express or demonstrate respect for each
other. This study aims to explore the differences and similarities between the Changana spoken in
Mozambique and the one spoken in South Africa regarding the use of personal deixis as a marker
of respect but on the basis of data obtained from written material. We start from the assumption
that in Changana, because it is a cross-border language, there may be differences in the way the
speakers handle personal deictical expressions to express respect in communication - social
deixis. We agree with Crystal (1997) when he advocates that in every language in the world there
are strategies for marking respect and what is distinctive is the way in which the differences in
social levels of the speakers are codified in the grammar and vocabulary of each particular
language. The data analyzed comparatively were taken from two Changan novels, one
Mozambican and the other South African. These data revealed that there is a disparate use of
respect markers between the two communities, and that there are contexts in which the two
express the same characteristics, thus concluding that the range of devices that members of these
communities described in the two works analysed (novels), use in expressing respect and courtesy
comes from the appreciation of the social relationships they establish between them, the social
roles they play, age, and gender.
