Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyze gender relations in the career choices of students applying for natural and social science courses at UEM, since there is a low participation of women in these courses. Thus, for data collection, a survey questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data and semi-structured interviews were used to collect qualitative data. The results of the study showed that the inquired students are below thirty years of age, single and attend courses in the face-to-face regime. The interviewed students are attending university for the first time and consider their choice of course as safe. They intend to attend the course of their choice to raise their degree, although some would have chosen another course, if they could. The course preference is not associated with gender, so there is no easy course that they identify with gender. For the students interviewed, the course of attendance guarantees prestige, security, stability and autonomy in employment. Barriers to girl’s attendance in natural and social science courses are not based on the influence of images presented in the books about professions in the early grades and/or on the influence of childhood play, but are due to the fact that women display a possible weak ability in this area and have little female representation in the professions of natural and social sciences in the choice of the course. The study concluded that gender relations in the career choices of students applying for natural and social science courses at UEM in 2017 are at a satisfactory stage, as the applicants’ career choices were associated with gender relations
